Year 4 Shape worksheets
Year 4 Shape is taught in the Summer term, weeks 8 to 9. This block has 8 steps: Understand angles as turns; Identify angles; Compare and order angles; Triangles; Quadrilaterals; Polygons; Lines of symmetry; Complete a symmetric figure.
Steps in this block
Step 1: Understand angles as turns
Describe quarter, half, three-quarter and full turns, clockwise and anticlockwise, and use them to say which way someone faces.
Step 1 · not scaffolded sheet with answersStep 2: Identify angles
Name acute, right and obtuse angles, and compare them with a right angle, a quarter turn.
Step 2 · not scaffolded sheet with answersStep 3: Compare and order angles
Compare angles, find the greatest and the smallest, and put angles in order of size.
Step 3 · not scaffolded sheet with answersStep 4: Triangles
Name triangles as equilateral, isosceles or scalene from their equal sides, and spot right-angled triangles.
Step 4 · not scaffolded sheet with answersStep 5: Quadrilaterals
Name squares, rectangles, rhombuses, parallelograms and trapeziums from their sides and angles, and count right angles and parallel sides.
Step 5 · not scaffolded sheet with answersStep 6: Polygons
Name polygons by their number of sides, tell regular polygons (equal sides and equal angles) from irregular polygons, and find the perimeter of a regular polygon.
Step 6 · not scaffolded sheet with answersStep 7: Lines of symmetry
Find lines of symmetry in shapes and patterns, count them and decide whether a dashed line is a line of symmetry.
Step 7 · not scaffolded sheet with answersStep 8: Complete a symmetric figure
Complete patterns of squares so that they are symmetrical about a mirror line, and count the squares to be shaded.
Step 8 · not scaffolded sheet with answersHow to use this block
Work through the steps in order. For each step, start the class on the Expected sheet and give Developing or Greater depth sheets where needed. Every worksheet has a separate answer sheet, so children can mark their own work or you can mark it with a marks column. Use the Make a sheet page, or the teacher guide, if you want to know more.
