For teachers
Maths worksheets for teachers: how to use them in class
Editable Word worksheets with answer sheets, arranged by year, term and block in teaching order.
Finding what you need
Choose a year group, then a term and a block. Each block lists its steps. Every step has its own page with the worksheets, a short description and sample questions.
What each step contains
Steps come in one of two formats, and each step page says which:
- One sheet of 14 questions (8 fluency, 6 reasoning) that starts easy and gets harder, with the answers in red on the last pages of the same file. Most steps in Year 5 and in the newer Year 6 blocks are like this, and the Make a sheet page can make fresh ones.
- Three levels (Developing, Expected, Greater depth) and two sets of each, so six worksheets per step, with a separate answer sheet for each.
The three-level sheets contain:
- Three levels (Developing, Expected, Greater depth) and two sets of each, so six worksheets per step.
- 8 fluency questions, 2 reasoning questions and 1 problem to solve, with marks shown. Multi-step calculations are worth more marks.
- A separate answer sheet for every worksheet, with working shown and a marks column.
Editing and printing
The files are Word documents (.docx). They open in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Pages and LibreOffice. Change the numbers, delete questions or add your own. If you change a question, change the answer sheet to match. Text is Arial 12 point with 1.5 line spacing and large working boxes, based on British Dyslexia Association guidance.
Need different numbers?
The Make a sheet page makes a brand-new sheet with the answers in red for any step that has been rewritten for it: choose the year, the unit and the step. Choose the scaffolded or not scaffolded sheet, all the questions or just the fluency ones, and press New numbers for a different set. It runs in your browser, so nothing is sent anywhere. Set code 1 gives the same sheet as the download on the step page.
Curriculum
The steps are written around the national curriculum programmes of study for mathematics in England. They can be used alongside any scheme of learning. This site is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any publisher or scheme provider.
Found a mistake?
Every answer is calculated by code and checked, but no teacher has reviewed every sheet yet, so please skim an answer sheet before first use. If you spot a problem, or have a suggestion, see About and contact.
