Full SATs-style test paper

One click makes a whole Paper 1 (grammar, punctuation and vocabulary): 50 questions for 50 marks in 45 minutes, as an editable Word file with a mark scheme. Each paper follows the order and topics of a real 2022 to 2025 test, with brand-new questions. The spelling test (Paper 2) is a separate page of work.

Leave blank for a new paper each time. Type a code to make the same paper again.

The label beside each topic (for example “3 styles”) is how many different kinds of question that topic can make, such as picking a word, ticking a table or rewriting a sentence. More styles means more variety on your sheet. The topic names are the same as on the SPaG SATs past questions page.

About these questions

Every question here is written by this website, in the style of the key stage 2 grammar, punctuation and vocabulary test (Paper 1). We studied the kinds of question in the 2013 to 2025 tests and the official list of what the test covers, then wrote our own. Every sentence is built from word lists, so the grammar of each question is known when it is made, and every answer is worked out by the same code. A second program, written separately, checks the answers again. They are not real test questions and they are not copied from any test. For the real ones, see SPaG SATs past questions.

There are kinds of question across the topics. Two topics from the framework, bullet points and ellipsis, have no questions here because they were not asked in the tests we studied. Questions are in the style of the test but are written for this site, so use your own judgement and read the answers before marking.
